Nepal Declares Two-Day Weekend Amid Fuel Crisis Triggered by Global Supply Disruptions (X)
Kathmandu: The Nepal government announced two important decisions on Sunday, declaring Saturday and Sunday as two-day weekly holiday for government offices. The new decision sets the opening hours for government offices from 9 am to 5 pm
Government spokesman Sasmita Pokharel said that government offices and educational institutions will now be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. He explained that this decision was taken due to the uneasy situation with petroleum supplies.

Earlier, the government offices in Nepal operated from 10 am to 5 pm, but now the time has been extended by one hour in the morning.
Until now, Nepal only had Saturday as its weekly holiday, but starting this week, both Saturday and Sunday will be a holiday. The government has also decided to extend the hours of government offices from 9 am to 5 pm
The Cabinet decided to maintain the 9 am to 5 pm hours for government offices, except educational institutions. This time limit will apply to all government offices except educational institutions.
This new system will take effect nationwide starting Monday. Government office employees will now have to report an hour earlier, at 9 am, to avoid impacting efficiency.
Earlier, Nepal increased aviation fuel prices by up to 117.4 per cent for international flights, effective after midnight on Tuesday.
State-run Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) said increases of 84.7%, 116.2% and 117.4% for international flights from Kathmandu, Pokhara and Bhairahawa, respectively, were needed to make payments to Indian Oil Corporation on time and avoid further supply disruptions.
